Father's Day Clock

This is what I made for my husband this year.  Wanted him to have something he could put on his desk.  And since he loves the beach it gave me a perfect opportunity to use my new MUDD PUDDLES!!

 

I should have taken some pics before I started working on this, but I forgot so I will try to explain best as I can.

The main part of this is plywood.  It is a solid piece of plywood with the word dad cut out of another piece of plywood.  Before I attached the dad word to the solid piece, I put the pictures behind the opening in the letter "d" and covered the plywood with the paper I wanted to use which is by Authentique (this line is beautiful). 

 

Then I inked the edges with Tim Holtz Distress Ink in peeled paint.   A thick coating of studio medium to paste the paper down (keeps it from bubbling up).   The "clock" part is a working clock.  The battery holder is on the back and it is a hole drilled in the middle to attach it. 

 

 

 

Added some random pieces and then the Mudd Puddles!!!!  In the picture above you can see it at the bottom of the clock all the way across it.

Here is a close up of the bottom right corner.  This stuff is so cool, and I couldn't wait to use!  I got it this year at the annual scrapbook convention my mom and I go to and we both couldn't resist it.  This stuff when it dries looks like real sand - and look at the mini seashells - aren't they cute!!!  The mud puddles come in all kinds of colors and are a neat way to add texture to things!  http://muddpuddles.net/  this is their website if you want to see more of their stuff!

Boys Baby Mum

My first baby mum!!!

 

The special occasion?? I AM NOW AN AUNT!!!   My brother and sister-in-law just had their first child this week and for the shower and their hospital door, I was entrusted to make the mum!                                                                                   

 

 

Well of course - you know me - mediocre would NEVER due, not for my nephew!!  So I wanted to make it the prettiest mum that hospital had ever seen.  Do you think I accomplished that? 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 So as you can see this mum was a little tricky.   I knew I wanted a monkey in the middle (his room was done in a monkey theme) but I didn't want the stuffed animal to be decoration - I wanted my nephew to be able to play with it.  

 

Trying to think of a creative way to do this, I thought what about an open heart where the monkey could be removable without damaging the mum!

 

 

 

 

 

 

What I did was create a custom backer with the middle cut out (very carefully).  I measured how many flowers I wanted and spaced apart evenly on the backer board marking a little x where the flower should go.  

 

 

 

 

 

Punched holes on the x marks and stuck the flowers in, but before I put the flowers in at the top, I made a little loop out of ribbon and attached it at the very top to hang down towards the middle of the mum.

 

To make the monkey removable, I used a hanging tag hook attached to top of monkey and hung him from that ribbon loop I made.  Then I pushed him back into the middle so he was sitting, but if you pulled on him a little bit you would see he was hanging there and could unhook him from the ribbon loop so that my newphew would have his first monkey stuffed animal there at the hospital!!  BUT I wanted the mum to still look complete once the monkey was taken out!!   What do you think???
